Post Office Operations To Remain Normal After Crash
The postman’s motto “Neither rain, nor sleet, nor gloom of night will keep me from my appointed rounds” also applies to the New Auburn Post Office after a car crashed into the southwest corner of the building last Friday.

Mikealeen Miller, who was in charge of the post office Friday, was sorting mail when Juanita Reese crashed into the corner of the building at about 8:50 a.m. Miller said the post office boxes shook and dirt flew out of the ventilation registers that are above the PO boxes.

The New Auburn Fire Department and EMS Services responded, but Reese and none of the other post office employees were injured.

After the car was removed, Miller had to complete her normal duties in addition to getting the building patched up. This involved getting permission from Eau Claire and Minneapolis post office officials to get the building boarded up.

Miller said post office operations are unaffected and that the accident will cause no interruption in service.

Bloomer School District Administrator Dr. Mary Randall (second from right) met with the school board last Wednesday for an inservice.

Bloomer School District Administrator Dr. Mary Randall and the board of education held an inservice Wednesday, July 16 and will meet again on Aug. 6 for another inservice. Randall began her duties on July 1.

Randall is using the workshops to introduce her leadership style to the board, as well as laying a good foundation for the new relationship. Randall emphasized that the district’s primary mission is student achievement, and that board members’ decisions should be based on what is best for the children. She also urged the board to be pro-active.

The new district administrator reviewed the state’s Open Meeting Law and its closed session provision. Randall also introduced the board members to some revisions to the regular meeting agendas and the meeting formats.

No business was discussed at the meeting. The board’s first meeting with Randall at the helm was Monday night.

Randall, the former district administrator at the Cochrane-Fountain City School District, has spent 29 years in education, working in public and parochial schools. Prior to taking the job at C-FC in 2007, she was the principal/PK-5 coordinator at Rice Lake’s Hilltop Elementary School.

Randall graduated from Omaha Burke High School, Omaha, Neb., in 1975. She received her bachelor of science in education from the College of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn. in 1979; she earned her master’s in 1991 from the University of Wisconsin-Superior, and her doctorate from the University of St. Thomas, Minneapolis, Minn., in Dec. 2007.

School District Buildings Get New Signage
The School District of Bloomer business office and the Bloomer High School received new lettering above their entrances last week. The signs will help visitors find the district offices and high school entrance and give the building a nice finished appearance. Lettering on the high school doors point people to the correct door to enter through.
